Macro Monday Series: Week 2

During our Macro Mondays Series we share a macro shot of something in our collection on Mondays for you to guess. We then give you the answer on Wednesdays. Then, our Curator Jaydeyn, tells you a bit about the item in detail on Thursdays. This is a fantastic way for you to get to know our collection from the comfort of your own home.
Follow along on our social media channels, or check the website weekly for the new item!

Can you guess what this object from our collection is from just a macro photo?
Have a good guess before scrolling down for the answer!

THE ANSWER:
Yep, you guessed it, this week’s macro shot is a shell! This specimen was collected from the shores of East Devonport and is a small part of a large collection of shells we house at the Centre. This shell belongs to the Placid venus (Placamen placidum). They live in the sand, and make an excellent meal for sea snails, sea stars and fish alike.
