Macro Monday Series: Week 4

During our Macro Mondays Series we share a macro shot of something in our collection on Mondays for you to guess. We then give you the answer on Wednesdays. Then, our Curator Jaydeyn, tells you a bit about the item in detail on Thursdays. This is a fantastic way for you to get to know our collection from the comfort of your own home.
Follow along on our social media channels, or check the website weekly for the new item!

I wonder what this one is?
Have a good guess before scrolling down for the answer!

THE ANSWER:

We may have made this week’s Macro Monday a little too easy! This is indeed a keel of a ship. But what ship you ask? Well, this keel was retrieved from the mud bank in the Don River and is the keel of the Waverley. Did you know that this Waverley is on the early Australian $5.00 note by mistake? Find out more about this curious mistake, and her demise with our curator in the video below!
