William Berryman was given this award in 1943 for selflessly diving overboard to save the life of an interstate seaman who had fallen in the Mersey at the wharf.\u2800<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, Mr Berryman drowned a decade later while attempting to return to his boat after his dingy capsized on a fishing trip.
